The story of a vacuum was definitely not what I was expecting when I read the title of the short. The time and effort it must of took to do this 3 minute stop motion film must have been quite the job to tackle. The movements were very fluent and the narrative behind the vacuum realizing what it's like to have hands, only to lose them actually hurt me emotionally. Never did I think that I would have feelings for an inanimate object, but I suppose that is the true beauty of stop motion film making.
I really enjoyed this short film and I think it is my favorite so far. I loved how it tapped into the childhood fantasy of toys coming to life after we leave the room. Even though the object was a vacuum the short made the vacuum feel like a living thing that had emotions.
Dan Bryan: Wow. That one was a ton of fun. I mean, we can take the surface story of a household cleaning item gaining sentience and having a sweet holiday story, or we can perhaps peer deeper and find some kind of metaphor for a stay-at-home spouse being appreciated during the holidays. Either way, it's a romp to be sure. One thing I noticed, particularly during the bathroom scene, is that even in a larger-scale production, it can be hard to account for all the shadows in stop-motion. I'm not sure how the hell they got the electrical cord to behave in fluid, snakelike motion like that, but it was impressive that they did. Awesome.
All I could think while watching this is how much time it must have taken to make; the shots were all done very seamlessly and I have a huge amount of respect for the flow of the objects. The set and shots were all very beautiful, and I liked the contrast of the newer vacuum with the more antique style of the house and furniture.
This was an amazing film. The shots were so fluid that I forgot half way through that it was a stop motion film. I cannot even imagine how much time an effort went in to making this film. I though it was particularly clever that they had the two vacuums interact with one another. I had always seen stop motion as only being meant for children's movies and animation, but this is helping me see things differently.
Wow that was an awesome film. While watching it at first I thought that they were getting their shots from a camera, but as the film progressed I noticed that it was just a really good stop motion film. I really enjoyed the story line and the director did a good job at pulling you into the world of the vacuum cleaner. I really felt for the vacuum cleaner when it lost its arm and was glad when it got a real hand for Christmas. There is no telling how long this process took but it turned out great I loved it.
This was a great flim that I really enjoyed. It was shot very well, and had no fingers or hands in any of the frames. I liked how it portrayed the story of a vacuum cleaning up before and after a party. I also liked the side story of it losing its hand and getting another one for a gift.
I thought this film was very beautifully shot. The director made the process of stop-motion filming seem easy! I also thought the music was well thought out and really helped enhance the story. The jump cuts to show the long span of time was done very nicely and read well. I have no idea how they got the scene with the dust to work, but that was really impressive as well. The use of color, especially with the tree was done well. Finally, I enjoyed the short clips to show that there was a party and that the vacuum's owner had a connection to the vacuum. It conveyed a lot with very little images which was nicely done.
I really enjoyed watching this short film. It was very visually appealing and the sound was also very nice. I really enjoyed the storyline as well. To think about how long this video took to film is overwhelming but their handwork definitely paid off. This has been my favorite video so far.
This was an amazing example of a stop motion film because it was so detailed and all the motions were so smooth. After doing a stop motion project, I realized how hard it is to keep the frame the same and being able to make all movement smooth. Winter Tale is a great stop motion film because it shows a journey of a vacuum around the house, which requires little thinking and allows the viewer to focus more on the realistic animation.
Stop motion is intense, and this one is flawless, which means they must have been extremely devoted and also invested a ton of time and energy in this. The beauty of stop motion is that it can bring life to inanimate objects. In this particular situation, the main character was a vacuum that was given a full narrative arc with desire, goals, conflict, and resolution. It is hard to imagine any other way this story could be told on screen, other than by animation, which stop motion does seem to be a form of.
The attention to detail in Winter Tale absolutely blew me away. I originally got into filmmaking through stop-motion animation so films like these really resonate with me. What really impressed me was the use of 24fps animation, which isn’t incredibly common in stop-motion short films, so the movie looked very smooth and “life-like.” One thing that really impressed me was that the lighting was so consistent that reflections in/on the glasses on the table stayed the same throughout the shots. The narrative was easy to follow and was heartwarming which is usually key when bringing inanimate objects to life through stop-motion.
