These were some interesting films alright, but out of the three we saw there the one that got my attention was B-Roll with Andre. This film had humor and was entertaining and informative. At first all of the b-roll in the film did not make since to me and was confusing, but as the film progressed you learned that all of the b-roll was everything that Andre shot with the go-pro he got. Hence the name of the film B-Roll with Andre. I liked how not every moment of the film was filled with the narration, but how a lot of the times they just played through the b-roll and let everything sink in with us. This was a good film and I enjoyed it.

ReplyDeleteB-Roll with Andre was the second of the three films, and definitely the one I enjoyed the most. It's main detriment was the lack of context it gave for the situation, but it provided enough that I could understand the basics of what was going on. What I really appreciated was that we were given not only a second-hand view into who Andre is based on the combination of interviews and go-pro footage, but we were also given a rather fascinating glimpse into the kind of things that both Andre and the interviewers discussed with one another, their shared interests and philosophical outlooks. The experience felt both incredibly impersonal and yet intimate at the same time.
Wilson Weirich: The first film was difficult to understand for me, but I did love the documentary cinematography. My favorite film by far was B-Roll with Andre. The comedic timing alone was fantastic. All the offhand comments really cracked me up. What fascinated me was the interview lighting set up and the gopro footage. The use of both of those aspects were really interesting. The third move (Fake Paradise) was very interesting as well. The use of silence between interview really gave an "out there," spacey feel to it. The shot composition was very well done. The shots of the pool with the girl holding a painting on the diving board that lasted for easily 30 seconds was incredibly intriguing to me, and I'm not quite sure why. All in all I really enjoyed watching all of them in a theater setting!
